When I was asked to be part of a local styled shoot for J’aime Magazine, taking place at the stunning setting of Swinfen Hall here in Lichfield, I jumped at the chance to promote my local community of wedding suppliers (list of suppliers right at the end of the blog)
The theme for this shoot was modern, creative, full of details, copper, greens and luxe.
I wanted to shoot this wedding in a way that gave the venue a different feel to some and to do this I scouted out spots outside and inside which may not have been used before. Swinfen Hall has great space, a gentleman's lounge area, a hall with a piano in, beautiful gardens, drive and more urban feel with the walled gardens and outdoor bar area to play with. I knew these were going to be my spots to shoot in.
When I scout a venue I am looking for areas where there is the best and even light, I know for the groom I wanted to give him more of an edgy vibe, with a softer touch to the bridal portraits.
For our groom I used the gentlemen's lounge to do those finishing touches - checking his tie, cufflinks and a grooms portrait. With the style of velvet suit Andrew had on from The Bespoke Tailor, the country vibe of Swinfen really made him stand out from the crowd. Later on in the day I wanted to showcase the back of the building and gardens so choose a wide angle shot which I remember shouting across the gardens “oh my god you look like something out of James bond!
For our bride I wanted to feature both her and the wedding dress - often brides don’t ask for a portrait of themselves but I know how much time and effort goes into bringing your wedding dreams to life and always try to take these photos to show you how beautiful you look. The dress was from Wedding Belles in Four Oaks who not only have stunning dresses but their customer experience has won them awards!
For me the details and decor tell your story and stop the same venue looking like a carbon copy of another wedding. This is why I always make a fuss of them and ensure all those details are captured. I loved the details for this shoot: embroidered place names from Extra Special Touch, hand painted stationery from Amy Bailey Designs , the wooden signs for the car, the cake stand, what the couple held as a thank you card are all designed and handmade by Bramble Sky (her Etsy account has sooo many other items).
Bringing the wedding breakfast room to life, the bridal bouquet and the grooms buttonhole was the fabulous and creative Peggy from Greenery and Co. I love her out of the box thinking and the moss and other foliage really gave this shoot a modern edge.
Talking of the cake, what a way to make a statement and add some wow factor. Laura from The Cake Spa has some amazing designs for the modern couple.
